The $32 million project is a milestone and a breakthrough for the future of large-scale energy storage in Mozambique.
CHALLENGE
Under the slogan “Energy for all”, the Government of Mozambique is building this hybrid solar plant with the goal of universal energy access by 2030, in a new step towards a clean energy future.
This hybrid solar plant is located in the city of Cuamba (Mozambique) and is the first project in the country to integrate a utility-scale energy storage system.
The design, supply and commissioning of this solar plant is being executed by the Spanish company
TSK, a leading company in the execution of EPC or
“turnkey” projects in the industrial, energy and environmental fields.
TSK has been present in the country for more than 8 years.
For the physical protection of this solar plant, TSK has the support of SCATI, a manufacturer of intelligent video systems, with which it has been collaborating for years to protect the projects in which it participates.
SOLUTION
For the protection and total control of the plant, 37 thermal cameras with different lenses model SET-14C10-EYA SET-14C10-EYA and two 4-megapixel outdoor PTZ dome cameras have been installed.
These thermal cameras are mainly used to detect hot spots that develop due to defective cells in solar panels.
Changes in solar radiation intensity in solar parks can cause thermal anomalies that, if not carefully controlled, can have a negative impact on the entire module.
These thermal cameras allow images to be viewed under any lighting, weather or environmental condition, offering high image quality.
On the other hand, these thermal cameras also allow perimeter protection of the solar plant, keeping intruders or unauthorized persons away and are capable of detecting fires and sending real-time alerts to react in time, even anticipating risk situations with maximum reliability.
These cameras are managed by a SCATI FENIX Video Management System (VMS) that allows a connection of up to 64 IP cameras and with a capacity to manage up to 100 clients simultaneously through the SCATI FENIX CMS.
When a camera detects an uncontrolled heat source, it sends an alert so that operators can verify it and take action to prevent incidents that can result in millions of dollars in losses.
BENEFITS
TSK is once again committed to SCATI’s technology, investing in systems that allow it not only to protect the facilities of this project from vandalism or dangerous situations. With SCATI’s solutions you are also able to control and prevent all the problems that can be caused by failures in the photovoltaic panels, in a more efficient and sustainable way.
The high availability of SCATI’s recording systems allows the customer to access images, data and storage even in the most critical situations where servers may go offline.
SCATI offers an open and scalable solution that can be integrated with other systems so that the customer can incorporate new video systems at any time without making additional investments.

With the advent of the Internet, consumers today are much more demanding than they were just 5 years ago. From their cell phones and from anywhere, they are able to compare product features, prices and know the ratings of other customers.
This digitalization has changed the relationship system between brands and customers, now bidirectional, causing retail to face a strong digital transformation, which has been accelerated after the emergence of COVID-19. The pandemic left a different consumer with new habits and preferences and with economic conditions very different from those shown in the previous scenario.
Despite this trend to the digital world, brands want to remain close to the consumer so their efforts are aimed at creating an omnichannel strategy in which e-commerce and traditional establishments coexist, which must undoubtedly become spaces where they can offer "unique experiences" where customers are the "center of the universe".
Technology is redefining this shopping experience and allows brands to know their customers, their consumption patterns, and even predict their purchase intentions. Specifically, Artificial Intelligence, data collection and interpretation (Big Data) are the basis for offering increasingly personalized and unique user experiences.
We are at the threshold of an unprecedented Digital Transformation in Retail, where new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (A.I.), Big Data and Digital Signage will converge to create the future. The multiple applications of these technologies in video systems make them the fundamental tool to gain business competitiveness.
On-demand services
Can you imagine being able to offer each of your customers personalized services through digital screens at the moment they access your point of sale?
Intelligent video systems are capable of classifying all the people, through demographic variables (gender, age, etc.), who access each of the establishments in real time and even know the emotions that a certain product provokes in them. When a customer enters an establishment, the system automatically classifies him and offers him relevant information through intelligent screens to make him feel unique and special.
Social distancing
With the pandemic, investment in technologies to build trust, security and avoid contact between employees and customers is critical.
Video surveillance systems incorporate deeplearning algorithms that let you know the exact number of people in an establishment and automatically track occupancy.
This information is vital for brands to know the occupancy rates of each of their establishments and to obtain data to optimize their resources, but it is also essential for consumers to know the capacity of the establishment in real time.
Minimize waiting times
Checkout lines are one of the main causes of user dissatisfaction. Reducing waiting times and improving the user experience is one of the challenges that retail can overcome thanks to video surveillance systems.
Video systems detect if a queue exceeds the desired number of people or the maximum waiting time and send an alarm so that the store reacts and minimizes waiting times by opening a cash register automatically.
Resource optimization.
To maximize the profitability of promotional actions and optimize the spaces of each establishment, marketing managers can make use of information from heat maps to know the busiest areas and the average dwell time.
Obtaining this information and being able to compare it is essential when testing the launching of new products, which will allow knowing which one generates the greatest interest by measuring its impact on the chain of stores.
Knowing the number of people who enter, the average time they stay, the most frequented spaces, their behavior, and even by time slots are some of the data that video systems continuously collect.
This information in turn allows the HR Department to manage more efficiently, and to provide more resources to those stores that need more personnel to improve customer service.
Fraud prevention at self-service checkouts
Self-service checkouts are becoming more and more common in stores as they represent a great optimization of resources. However, they require supervision to prevent fraud.
Video systems offer an effective security measure to prevent fraud at self-service checkouts thanks to their integration with POS (Point of Sale Terminals) transactions. Locating video surveillance images associated with any operation performed on your POS network in just seconds to achieve an agile response to suspicious transactions is vital to eliminate the risk of fraud in your establishments.
"Data Driven Marketing and Big Data.
Can you imagine optimizing your management by making decisions based on objective data collected by video surveillance systems?
Big Data tools, such as SCATI RECKON are able to collect, simplify and organize all the information coming from your users and their behavior patterns so that all departments can obtain customized reports for better decision making regarding the launch of new products and the development of sales channels up to the optimization of processes.

How to optimise the stock through managing racks by video systems?
Smart management of racks through the sorting out of objects
The stock optimization in the point of sales is one of the main challenges retailing companies.
Thanks to the numerous applications Artificial Intelligence is offering, the implementation of video surveillance systems is increasing in the retailing sector.
Specifically, the incorporation of deeplearning algorithms allows monitoring and managing racks and other points of sales in an automated way through the recognition of objects by video systems.
Automating the restocking and purchasing processes to define the batch, the order point and the appropriate safety stock at any time is a reality that some international chains are implementing to optimise the stock in their point of sales.
Stock optimization is not the only advantage resulting from the sorting out of objects by smart video systems, there are other advantages that increase your business profitability.
Visual merchandising
Through planograms, every product is numbered and represented in a matrix graphically to know their exact position in the racks.
This system verifies the correct position of the products according to the guidelines set by the Head Office and confirms that the racks are tidy.
Thanks to the Sorting out of Objects, keeping the point of sales under control and tidy is easy without having to invest in unnecessary resources.
Efficient management of stocks
With automatic pre-positioning, each camera “scans” up to 3 racks and sends a panoramic image to the server so that algorithms can analyse the present stock of every product.
The person responsible only needs to previously set the safety stock and, if under the set values, it sends an alert for automatic restocking.
Managing a peak of demand, without an apparently known reason, of a specific product becomes an automatic and simpletask and allows increasing prices slightly and immediately and obtaining a higher margin of sale for that product.
Appropriate price strategy
In the large distribution market where margins are so short, each cent counts. Therefore, a good stock optimization is as important as the definition of the price strategy maximising the net profit of every product.
Versatility of the video allows integrating price electronic labels. This system is able to verify appropriate prices at any time and modify them automatically according to the rotation of products, proximity to the expiry date, etc. to promote the demand and reduce waste.
Analysing and processing all this amount of information for decision-making is easy due to the use of Business Intelligence tools. Big Data simplifies, organises and crossmatches the data necessary to have the most suitable response when taking decisions on improvements to provision processes, stock management and price policy to increase your business profitability.
In a sector where Digital Transformation is a fact, having the technology that allows improving the user experience in the traditional sales channel is of outmost importance.
