Product life cycles are getting shorter, technological innovations are happening faster and faster, and the pandemic has accelerated the use of technologies that were already in their infancy, such as thermography,Miguel Ángel Gimeno solutions for managing traffic flow and analytics related to facial recognition.

While some of these applications seem like a fad and may have entered a declining phase of their life cycle, there is no doubt that the use of on-the-edge analytics or artificial intelligence to generate data is here to stay.

This article aims to collect new technologies applied in the electronic security industry, and more specifically in video surveillance.

Intelligent video solutions. Beyond security

Intelligent video solutions. Beyond securityAI technology allows operators to focus on what they do best by eliminating the need to continuously monitor monitors and automating the “detection” function of surveillance: verifying and acting on critical incidents.

AI-based software tools help decrease the amount of time spent on surveillance, allowing security operators to be more efficient and successful in their work.

But anyone who thinks that AI is only useful for providing early warning of risk events or increasing the productivity of control center operators is mistaken.

The incorporation of AI in video systems allows the video surveillance industry to transform itself and incorporate new business analytics in its systems, capable of providing its customers with new metrics to integrate into their business dashboards, offering a new challenge to the security area, which is consolidated as a new center that generates value for the business.

Big Data and Video Business Intelligence (BI). Improve decision makingBig Data and Video Business Intelligence (BI). Improve decision making

Data is becoming the oil of the 21st century. A raw material that, when extracted, refined and distributed, becomes the basis of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and therefore the engine of digital transformation in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.

AI systems, while alerting, can process the data associated with the object that caused the alarm by feeding databases in which they are stored for further processing.

This BI software helps transform this data into more easily interpretable information, which can be converted into reports, dashboards, graphs and other versions that facilitate analysis.

Thanks to Big Data tools, the system is provided with Business Intelligence so that other areas or departments of the organization can take advantage of this data in their day-to-day tasks.

IoT

The fusion of the latest technologies of the Internet of Things (IoT) to capture data in video surveillance, will allow your systems to ensure the security of your installation, but will also be a fuIoTndamental source of information for more accurate, more automatic, more predictable and accessible to all decision making.

The emergence of IoT, the improvement and reduction in the cost of sensor technology, communications and the use of connected devices give us access to large amounts of data. In this increasingly digitized environment, billions of data in the form of texts, images or numbers are generated every day.

The goal, to achieve total convergence and make the leap to the next level, which will allow us to make decisions and take immediate actions based on AI.

Cloud

The extraordinary growth of data generated in video surveillance has created a compelling need to store, manage and protect that data for a variety of reasons, either for a short period of time or, due to company and/or legislative compliance requirements, for several years.

On the other hand, and thanks to an increase in data transmission speeds on public/private networks and the emergence of mass storage solutions, either in our own data centers or contracted from cloud storage companies, we are going to see a proliferation of “aaS” solutions (as a service).

We are not only thinking about information storage, but also about the exploitation of that information or AI solutions in which, instead of purchasing a license, you pay for the number of times you use it.

However, before jumping into cloud solutions, it is very important to determine whether the specific characteristics of your scenario allow technically and economically profitable migration from local recording solutions to a cloud system.

The incorporation of Artificial Intelligence in video surveillance systems in combination with the Internet of Things (IoT) allows systems to generate data that, properly processed using Big Data tools, can be transformed into valuable information for the security areas of a company, but also for other departments to improve their decision making.

The emergence of the IoT, improved communications, the use of connected devices and cheaper sensors will allow us to have access to an overwhelming amount of information that we will only be able to analyze and process thanks to the use of AI.
